Workplace Clean Air Survey Results
Just as we surveyed the schools Harrison county we also surveyed a sampling of workplaces. We used data from 10 workplaces to compile a report. We found that 70 percent of them were not familiar with the “Clean Indoor Air Law”, but 90 percent of the workplaces do have written policies addressing tobacco use. None of those surveyed had policies that restricted smoking to designated indoor areas in compliance with the state clean indoor air law. Only half of the businesses said that they restrict smoking in all indoor facilities, but none had policies that restrict all indoor and outdoor facilities. Eighty percent of the workplaces have “No Smoking” signs posted.
When asked about compliance with the policies, 80 percent of workplaces do enforce the policies. Of those 90 percent of employers said that their employees did comply with the current policy. Forty percent do not offer any tobacco cessation services to their employees through the employer or employer’s insurance.
Finally, the survey found that of the businesses surveyed, ninety percent were satisfied with their current policies. None of the businesses were contemplating any changes to their policies. Only 20 percent were interested in receiving assistance with changing their policies for smoking or tobacco use in general.
